Vivian Chilaka Death: School Leadership Breaks Silence
Fresh details have emerged in the ongoing investigation into the death of Vivian Chilaka, a student of the College of Nursing Sciences, Alor (CONSALOR), Anambra State, following an exclusive conversation between DSG HERALD NEWS and the Provost of the institution, Mrs Amarachi Ume Akubuike.
Speaking on the tragedy, Mrs Ume Akubuike described Vivian as one of the institution’s most outstanding students and expressed deep sadness over the incident.
According to the Provost, Vivian Chilaka was “the best of the best” among her classmates and had maintained an excellent record throughout her time at the college.
“Vivian Chilaka was the best of the best in her set. She was a very good girl. Before now, I had never heard any report or complaint involving her since she entered the college,” Mrs Ume Akubuike told DSG HERALD NEWS.
The Provost, who also served as Vivian’s course adviser, said the news came as a shock to both her and the institution.
“I am so bitter. I haven’t been myself since yesterday. Since my days at this college, I have not heard of any incidents or complaints concerning Vivian or anyone else in relation to her. That is why I was surprised when the College Registrar called me yesterday morning around 8 a.m. and informed me about the incident,” she said.
How the School Learned About the Incident
Mrs. Ume Akubuike disclosed that she immediately travelled to the school after receiving the call in order to verify the information personally and understand the circumstances surrounding the situation.
According to her, the institution promptly reported the matter to law enforcement authorities.
“I had to get down to the school immediately to find out what was going on and confirm for myself. Then we reported to the police. The authorities are now working to identify those responsible for this horrible act,” she said.
The Provost commended the response of security agencies, stating that police officers arrived at the scene shortly after the incident was reported.
“The police responded quickly. Before I could get there, because I live some distance away, the Divisional Crime Officer was already at the scene,” she explained.
No Arrests Yet, Investigation Ongoing
At the time of speaking with DSG HERALD NEWS, Mrs Ume Akubuike said she had not been informed of any arrests directly linked to the case.
She noted that the school had remained in communication with investigators and was awaiting further updates.
“There have not been any arrests. We are still waiting to hear from the authorities. We have contacted the police to know if there has been any lead, but there has not been any information communicated to us yet,” she said.
The Provost added that investigators were awaiting the arrival of family members as part of the ongoing process.
According to information provided by the school, police authorities questioned and detained the landlord and landlady of the compound where Vivian lived off campus as part of preliminary investigations.
DSG HERALD NEWS has not independently verified the circumstances surrounding their detention, and authorities have not publicly linked any individual to the death.
School Clarifies Role of Priest Seen in Circulating Video
Mrs Ume Akubuike also identified the priest seen in a video circulating online in connection with the incident.
According to her, the cleric is Rev. Canon Emmanuel Anibuogu, who serves as the Registrar of the College of Nursing Sciences, Alor.
The clarification comes amid public interest in images and videos emerging after news of Vivian’s death became public.
“This Has Never Happened Before”
The Provost stressed that the incident was unprecedented in the institution’s history and expressed concern about its impact on students, staff, and the wider community.
“This type of thing has never happened in this school before,” she said.
While noting that Vivian was residing outside the school premises at the time of the incident, the Provost said the institution remained deeply affected by the tragedy.
“Inasmuch as she was living outside the school, we are saddened by this. We do not want such a thing to happen to anyone else in society or in the school.”
Call for Government Action
Mrs. Ume Akubuike appealed to the Anambra State Government and security agencies to ensure a thorough investigation and bring those responsible to justice.
“I am pleading that the state government look into this matter so that the culprits of this horrifying act will be caught,” she said.
Her appeal echoes earlier calls by family members and student nursing bodies demanding transparency, accountability, and justice in the case.
