Alma Asinobi, a 26-year-old Nigerian postgraduate architecture student and travel content creator, is set to embark on an ambitious journey to break the Guinness World Record for the fastest time to visit all seven continents. Her goal is to complete this feat in under 70 hours, surpassing the current record of 73 hours held by Indian travelers Sujoy Kumar Mitra and Dr. Ali Irani.
Journey Overview
Starting on March 15, 2025, Asinobi’s meticulously planned route will commence in Antarctica and span all seven continents, including North America, South America, Europe, Africa, Asia, and Oceania. She will briefly leave the airports at each destination to document her journey with evidence at landmarks, as required by Guinness World Records.
Advocating for Low-Mobility Passport Holders
Beyond the personal achievement, Asinobi’s endeavor aims to shed light on the challenges faced by individuals with low-mobility passports, particularly Nigerians. The Nigerian passport is ranked 88th on the Henley Passport Index, limiting visa-free travel options. Asinobi has faced numerous obstacles, including applying for over 10 visas and experiencing multiple rejections. She hopes her journey will inspire others to pursue their travel ambitions despite these barriers.
Inspiration and Support
Asinobi’s passion for travel began in 2019 when she set a goal to visit up to 16 countries annually. Although the COVID-19 pandemic temporarily halted her plans, she has since visited over 30 countries and founded a travel agency, Kaijego. Her determination has garnered widespread support, with fellow Nigerians rallying behind her cause. Fiyinfoluwa Akinsiku, a doctor who traveled to all seven continents over nine years with a Nigerian passport, praised her bravery and looks forward to welcoming her into the elite club of global travelers.
Social Media and Community Engagement
With a following of over 200,000 across social media platforms, Asinobi has become a trusted voice in the travel community. Her authentic storytelling and engaging visuals have led to partnerships with global brands such as Sony, Mastercard, and Spotify. She has also delivered keynote speeches at TEDx Talks, sharing her experiences and insights on global exploration.
Upcoming Challenges
Asinobi’s journey is not without challenges. She recently learned that an American national, Johnny Buckingham, has been certified as the new record holder with a time of 64 hours, traveled in February 2025. Undeterred, Asinobi remains committed to her goal and is adjusting her plans to meet this new benchmark.
Community Engagement
To further engage with her community, Asinobi plans to break another record by collecting the most signatures on a piece of travel memorabilia. She intends to carry a Nigerian flag throughout her journey and gather signatures from supporters at a celebratory event in Lagos upon her return.
Alma Asinobi’s upcoming world tour is a testament to her resilience, determination, and commitment to challenging the limitations imposed by low-mobility passports. Her journey not only aims to set a new world record but also to inspire countless individuals from underrepresented backgrounds to pursue their travel dreams. As she embarks on this historic endeavor, Asinobi continues to redefine global exploration and advocate for greater inclusivity in international travel.
