Rabat, Morocco – Excitement is building across the continent as Morocco prepares to host the 15th edition of the U-17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON U-17), scheduled to take place from March 30 to April 19, 2025.
For the first time in the tournament’s history, the competition will feature 16 teams, expanding from the previous 12-team format. This change aims to provide more young African talents the opportunity to compete on the big stage and gain international exposure.
The top 10 teams from the tournament will qualify for the 2025 FIFA U-17 World Cup, which will be held in Qatar later this year. This makes the tournament highly competitive, as teams from across Africa will be battling for a spot in the global showcase.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has expressed confidence in Morocco’s ability to host a world-class tournament, citing the country’s advanced football infrastructure, modern stadiums, and experience in organizing international sporting events. Morocco has previously hosted major tournaments, including the 2022 FIFA Club World Cup and the 2024 CAF Women’s Champions League Final.
Teams such as Nigeria, Ghana, Senegal, and defending champions Mali are among the favorites to make a strong impression at the tournament. Scouting agencies and European clubs are expected to closely monitor the competition, as the U-17 AFCON has historically produced some of Africa’s finest footballers, including Victor Osimhen (Nigeria), Kelechi Iheanacho (Nigeria), and Sadio Mané (Senegal).
Football fans across Africa are eagerly awaiting the tournament, which will be broadcast live on major sports networks, ensuring millions of viewers can witness the next generation of African football stars.
