LAGOS ARENA: CONSTRUCTION BEGINS ON 12,000-CAPACITY INDOOR FACILITY FOR SPORTS & ENTERTAINMENT

Lagos, Nigeria – February 28, 2025 – The Lagos State Government has officially commenced the construction of the Lagos Arena, a state-of-the-art 12,000-capacity indoor facility designed to host sports, entertainment, and cultural events. The project, spearheaded by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration, is expected to enhance the city’s status as a major hub for global entertainment and sporting activities.
The Lagos Arena will be a multi-purpose indoor venue located in the heart of Lagos. It is set to feature world-class amenities, including modern seating arrangements, cutting-edge lighting and sound systems, VIP lounges, and advanced security infrastructure. The project aims to cater to basketball, boxing, concerts, conventions, and other large-scale events.
Governor Sanwo-Olu, during the groundbreaking ceremony, emphasized the importance of the arena in boosting Lagos’ economy and positioning it as a key player in international entertainment and sports. “The Lagos Arena is a landmark project that will not only provide a premier venue for events but will also generate employment opportunities, promote tourism, and stimulate economic growth,” he stated.
The construction of the Lagos Arena is expected to have a significant positive impact on the local economy:
Job Creation – The project will create thousands of direct and indirect jobs, ranging from construction workers to hospitality and event management personnel.
Tourism Boost – The new facility is expected to attract international artists, sports teams, and event organizers, increasing Lagos’ appeal as a global destination.

The Lagos Arena is scheduled for completion in 2027. The project is being funded through a public-private partnership (PPP), with contributions from both the Lagos State Government and private sector investors.
Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Aramide Adeyoye, stated that the facility is being constructed to meet global standards. “We are ensuring that this project aligns with international best practices in infrastructure development. The Lagos Arena will be a game-changer for Nigeria’s entertainment and sports industries,” he said.
Sports and entertainment industry stakeholders have welcomed the initiative. Popular Nigerian musician Davido expressed excitement, saying, “This is what we need to take Nigerian entertainment to the next level.” Similarly, Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) President, Musa Kida, lauded the government’s commitment to sports development, adding that the Lagos Arena will serve as a perfect venue for national and international basketball tournaments.
The construction of the Lagos Arena represents a bold step toward transforming Lagos into a global sports and entertainment powerhouse.
