The people of Irete and Ndi Owerri are preparing for a historic day of celebration that blends Chieftaincy Conferment with philanthropy. At the center of this event is Igwejiuba-Francis Ugorji, whose generosity and rising influence will be recognized through four traditional titles and the commissioning of the Benedict Amaechi Ugorji Free Public Library.
The ceremony, set for December 30, 2025, will bring together traditional rulers, political leaders, academics, and community stakeholders. The dual event will highlight the enduring values of culture, honor, and service in Igbo society.
Four Chieftaincy Titles for Igwejiuba-Francis Ugorji
It is rare to witness a single individual receiving four chieftaincy titles in quick succession. Yet this is the honor awaiting Igwejiuba-Francis Ugorji, whose commitment to cultural preservation and community development is celebrated across Umuguma, Okuku, Umunwoha, and Irete.
In Umuguma Ancient Kingdom, he will be conferred with Onwa na Etiri Oha by HRM Eze Dr. George N. Ugorji, Ezeohamere IV, a title symbolizing “the moon that shines for the people.”
In Okuku, HRH Eze Paul Unawunwa, Eze Udo II, will honor him with Egbe ana agba na Anyanwu I, which means “the eagle that soars at sunrise.”
In Umunwoha, HRH Eze Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ejiogu, Eze Oha II, will confer the title Igwejiuba – Umunwoha, linking his name with the community’s collective aspirations.
Finally, in Irete, HRH Eze Dr. E. C. Ekwelibe (KSM, KSS), Agubiam I of Irete—Ezechimere, will bestow the revered title Ogbuefi Irete Agubiam. This final Chieftaincy Conferment seals his place as a cultural ambassador and community leader.
Commissioning of Benedict Amaechi Ugorji Free Public Library
The second highlight of the celebration is the commissioning of the Benedict Amaechi Ugorji Free Public Library, an enduring gift from the Igwejiuba-Francis Ugorji Foundation. The library will serve as a hub for literacy, research, and empowerment in Owerri.
Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha (Omenkeahuruanya), former Governor of Imo State, will officially commission the library. His presence underscores the significance of this project as a people-driven solution to the region’s educational challenges.
Community leaders have hailed the library as a “monument of hope.” With free access to books, digital resources, and research tools, the facility promises to enhance the learning experiences of students and researchers across Imo State.
Grand Reception in Irete
After the Chieftaincy Conferment and library commissioning, a grand reception will take place at the Community Primary School, Irete. The reception will showcase Igbo cultural heritage through music, dance, and communal displays of pride.
Invited guests include traditional rulers, political leaders, business executives, and academics. Local youth groups, artisans, and cultural associations will participate, ensuring the day is both festive and unifying.
Legacy of Honor, Service, and Philanthropy
The celebrations demonstrate the enduring legacy of Igwejiuba-Francis Ugorji. By accepting multiple Chieftaincy Conferments and donating a free public library, he is reinforcing the essential link between culture, education, and service.
The Benedict Amaechi Ugorji Free Public Library positions him as a community builder whose philanthropy addresses critical gaps in education. Commentators argue that the dual recognition places him at the intersection of tradition and modern development.
The Bigger Picture for Ndi Owerri
For Ndi Owerri, this moment is symbolic. The Chieftaincy Conferment highlights cultural honor, while the library commissioning emphasizes forward-looking community development. Together, they reflect a balance of tradition and progress.
As one elder in Irete noted: “We are proud that one of our own is receiving titles from across kingdoms while giving us a library that will outlive us all.”
The December 30 event will remain a milestone in the history of Irete and Ndi Owerri, with Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha, leading the library commissioning and traditional rulers honoring Igwejiuba-Francis Ugorji, the celebration will stand as proof of the power of culture, education, and philanthropy.
For Ndi Owerri, it is pride. For Irete, it is renewal. And for Igwejiuba-Francis Ugorji, it is the living expression of a legacy rooted in honor and vision.
