In a rare weather event, the Al-Jawf desert region in Saudi Arabia has experienced snowfall for the first time in recorded history. Beginning in early November 2024, heavy snow and hail transformed the typically arid landscapes around cities like Sakaka and Dumat Al-Jandal into a snowy wonderland, astonishing residents and sparking widespread excitement on social media. This unusual precipitation also brought heavy rainfall, contributing to an atmospheric system that may impact regional weather patterns. The Saudi National Center for Meteorology (NCM) has advised caution, as thunderstorms and strong winds could follow in the coming days.
The snowfall aligns with shifting climate trends that have occasionally brought snow to other mountainous parts of the country, like Jabal Al-Lawz. However, snowfall in a desert area like Al-Jawf remains exceptionally uncommon, adding a unique element to this year’s weather phenomena
